About

Lord of the Rings as well as the Hobbit story can be viewed in many different ways. The simplest version of it being, a tale of good versus evil.  However, this explanation does not even scratch the surface of the stories’ intrinsic complexities. This is why I am allowing myself to dive into these complexities and exploring them one by one. Every character, in both Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit trilogies, is going through his personal emotional journey, which is honest and clearly expressed through the visual medium of cinema.

My posts will be following the storylines as seen in the films made by Sir Peter Jackson. The films enrich the story by the landscape, overall design, and music. These elements broaden the world described by Professor Tolkien in an emotional way. The attention to detail in the design of this world coupled with masterfully composed music brings to life emotions illuminated through the characters. Every element of these films is an important piece of the emotional structure of the stories.

Professor Tolkien viewed it, and wrote it, as a mythology in the hopes of filling a sorely lacking part of England`s history. As such, it can be chronologically assembled from the very beginning and creation of Middle-Earth to its first inhabitants all the way to the tossing of the One Ring into the fires of Mount Doom. It is a masterpiece that has taken the writer a lifetime to write, has brought to life many different inhabitants, and, in the end, given us a literary marvel. I personally, embrace this mythology as being history rather than fantasy. It is the honesty of the characters` feelings and struggles that transcends the world of fantasy and becomes the truth.

I, as I am sure many of you, have had my share of misgivings and misdirection. Insecurity, self-doubt, loss, pain, and depression have all had a part in my personal story. This is not to say that I identify with any particular character, but that I can relate to their emotional turmoil. This is why the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit are very near and dear to my heart. They represent the purity of being.

I write in the breathing sort of rhythms so it feels natural. It`s a human feeling.

Emotions – a forever inspiring well of absolute truth. The core substance of any one person. Or in this case, fictional characters. The emotional journeys, upon which these characters find themselves, are anything but fictional. They represent an entire arc of human emotions that can produce an entire avalanche of happenings, changing the fate of an entire world. Friendship, the sanctity of the home, responsibility, sacrifice, temptation, acceptance – values guided by these characters` inner worlds.

I invite you to explore ever deeper with me these inner worlds and all the ways they influence the lives of the characters.
